The University of Sindh, the oldest University in Pakistan, was constituted under the University of Sindh Act. No. XVII of 1947 was passed by the Legislative Assembly of Sindh. From 1947 to 1951 the University functioned solely as an examining body. However, after its relocation to Hyderabad in 1951. The development of the present Campus at Jamshoro, about 15 kilometers from Hyderabad on the right bank of the River Indus now designated as Allama I.I. Kazi Campus.
The university has developed 43 full-fledged teaching institutes/centers/departments functioning under various academic Faculties including the Institute of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering and the Centre for Environmental Sciences.
There are presently 4 Law Colleges and 74 Degree and Post Graduate Colleges (including 16 Private Colleges) affiliated with the University.
Shaheed Allah
Buksh Soomro University of Art, Design and Heritages, is the first university
of its kind in the country in the public sector comprising various departments
in visual arts and architecture. University has been reconstituted and
reorganized from the Centre of Excellence in Arts and Design (CEAD), Mehran
University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro through Act XIV of Sindh
2020 passed by the Sindh Assembly wide and published Gazette dated 15/07/2020.
